The lovely medieval towers that stand starkly against the central Italian sky are the fourteen reasons to visit San Gigmignano. The fourteen remaining towers are the only physical reminders of the violent and frequent battles that scarred Tuscany for centuries. The original seventy towers (a figure that is hard to believe considering the small size of the town) served as solid protection for its citizens.
