Nazareth, the site of the Miracle of the Annunciation, is the largest Arab city in Israel. Picturesque red roofs and white snow churches ramble haphazardly down the slopes of this ancient Galilean hillside.
The return of the Holy Family from Egypt is chronicled in Matthew 2:23 "And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He (Jesus) shall be called a Nazarene." And indeed it was in Nazareth that Jesus lived for the major part of His life. The church of St. Joseph's Carpentry contains ruins of 1st-century Nazareth - the original workshop of Joseph and home of Holy Family.
