The name Yad VaShem means "monument and name", and was given to this National Memorial for the six million Jews who were killed by the Nazis during WWII. The Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles was planted in memory of non-Jews who helped save Jews during the war. The Pillar of Heroism was erected in honor and memory of the Resistance fighters during WWII. On the mosaic floor, the names of the 21 largest concentration camps are inscribed, and an eternal torch burns near the wall at the West side.
