Qumran became famous in the 1940s when archaeologists discovered caves containing hundreds of scrolls from the Second Temple period. These scrolls became knows as the Dead Sea Scrolls. Many of the Dead Sea Scrolls can be viewed at the Shrine of the Book in Jerusalem.
