  Travel in Sariska

Travel in Sariska Established in 1955, Sariska is a tiger sanctuary under the Project Tiger. The thick forest, which is nestled on sloping hills with steep cliffs, provides a habitat to many species of animals. The forest is made up of a combination of including 'Dhok' the dominant tree species of the lower hill slopes, 'Salar' the tree of the higher, steeper slopes, and ‘Ber’, ‘Dhak’ and ‘Ronj’ the valley trees. The leaves, which begin in green color during the monsoon, turn copper in winter and then grey in the summer. Some of the animals that live at the sanctuary include the sambhar, chital, nilgai, four-horned antelope, wild boar and common langur, caracal and jungle cats. Porcupines, purely nocturnal rodents, are conspicuous after sunset. Common birds at Sariska are partridges (Grey and black),peacock, red spurfowl, pigeons, quails, sand grouse, parakeets baya, kits, eagle and vultures. Sariska is open to visitors throughout the year but the best season to observe wildlife is during winter months, i.e. from November to March.
