Often called "the noblest Hindu memorial of ancient India," the Rajghat Memorial Shrine is a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, the famous Jama Masjid. The Shrine is where Mahatma (born Mohandas K.) Gandhi was cremated on January 3, 1948. The modern national liberation leader was assassinated less than six months after Independence was gained, after dedicating his life and career to the “Quit India” movement. The sprawling side on the banks of Yamuna is marked by brick platform flanked by an eternal flame.
