This fortress's origins can be traced back to the ancient Yadava dynasty of Deogiri and the Kakatiyas of Warangal. Its name originates from the Telugu word Golla Konda, which means "Shepherd's Hill." The massive granite fort has walls with eight gates and 87 bastions extending up to seven kilometers in circumference. Golconda is renowned for its amazing acoustics and its ingeniously constructed water supply system. Additionally, the fort offers its visitors a nightly evening attraction, a spectacular sound and light show known as the Golconda son-et-lumiere.
