Situated 65 kilometers north of Agra, Vrindavan attests to the omnipresent influence of religion on Indian life. Like its sister city of Mathura, Vrindavan is renowned for its associations with the Lord Krishna, who spent much of his youth in the town. The city contains the Krishna-Balram Temple, a new structure constructed by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, along with its most prominent temple, the Govind Dev Temple, erected by Raja Man Singh in 1590.
