Orchha

Orchha Approx. Time: 2 hours
Activity Level: Easiest

The medieval city of Orchha was founded by Bundela rulers, who, in the 16th and 17th centuries constructed remarkable palaces and incredibly ornate temples. Flanked by the river Betwa, Orchha offers its visitors a regal fortress comprised of three distinct palaces. The first of the palaces, known as Jhangir Mahal, was built to commemorate the visit of Emperor Jahangir in the 17th century. Delicate cenotaphs and intricate trellis works complement this impressive structure. The second structure, Raj Mahal, is the oldest of the three and offers an intriguing maze of staircases and halls that lead to the numerous turrets which punctuate its facade. Equally as impressive, the final palace in Orchha, the Rai Praveen Mahal, affords its visitors a breathtaking panorama of this picturesque town.
