The Sacre Coer Basilica's grand collection of 19th century sculptures, architecture, and paintings provides wonderful insight into the history of that century. This church, which was built by public subscription after the 1870 defeat in the Franco-Prussian war, is Paris' best-known landmark after the Eiffel Tower. The basilica was gloriously consecrated in 1919 in the artist's town of Montmarte.
