This famous Parisian district has been home to intellectuals and bohemians alike since the middle ages. Deriving its name from the language of the scholars, Latin was actually spoken here through the 19th-century by the students of the famous Sorbonne. Located on the general axis between Boulevard St. Michel and St. Germain, the quartier is teeming with cafes, bookshops, small boutiques, night clubs, street merchants and artists. It is also the historical site of numerous political uprisings, of which the student revolt of May 1968.
