Orleans' most recognizable site, the Cathedrale Ste-Croix is a combination of classic style and ornate decoration. In the 16th century, most of the cathedral was destroyed during the Wars of Religion. Henry IV and his successors believed in the beauty and importance of the cathedral and were dedicated to its restoration.
