This incredibly maintained 2000-year-old amphitheatre was discovered when developers were surveying the land in order to build an apartment complex. The two theatres were built into a hillside. The Grand Theatre was built in 15 BC to seat an enormous crowd of 10,000; this is France's oldest Roman Theatre. Both the Grand and the smaller Odeon are still used for shows during the Nuits de Fourviere.
