Although construction began in the 12th century, the building of the Romanesque cathedral spanned over three centuries. Within the walls where Henri IV and Marie de Medicis married stands a remarkable marvel of time, a 14th-century astronomical clock keeps the time by popping bell-ringing statuettes out of its front at the top of every hour.
