Esna is a little town at about 35 miles south of Luxor. The Temple of Khnum is located is Esna and is the main attraction. It was dedicated to the ram headed god Khnum who was the god of life and fertility and looks like a man with the head of a ram. The Temple was built in Greco-Roman times by Ptolemy VI. The temple remains consist only of the first hypostyle hall of columns.

Nearby is a Christian monastery. It is the monastery of Manaus and El Shohada. It was constructed in the 4th century.
