Once the summer residence of Brazil’s Emperor Dom Pedro Petrópolis is an hour’s drive from Rio de Janeiro, and a terrific excursion with cultural, culinary and leisure attractions. The area includes historically important architecture, such as at the entrance to the city, a museum inside what was Dom Pedro’s summer residence that houses the great treasures of the Brazilian Crown, the oldest religious temple in the city dating back to 1862 and an arboretum. The attractions along with the 50 plus restaurants surrounding Petropolis offer an entertaining day.

Take a half day tour and visit the Imperial Museum, the Crystal Palace, and the Sao Pedro de Alcantara Neolithic Cathedral.
