Also known as the "Imperial City", Petropolis is a day trip from Rio. It was once a retreat for the last emperor of Brazil. The Museu Imperial is home to the imperial crown and robes and the marble floors are also worth seeing. Also, while visiting Petropolis, check out the Crystal Palace, Gothic Cathedral, and home of, the famous aviator, Santos-Dumont. Brazilian's believe him to be the actual inventor of the airplane and his house is very odd and interesting.
