Corcovado Mountain

Corcovado Mountain Approx. Time: 3 hours
Activity Level: Easy to Moderate

Corcovado(Hunchback) Mountain, in Rio, has been the home of the Corcovado Railway since 1885. Even today, you can ride a train up to Corcovado Mount. The view from the mountain is spectacular, and this is also where you can see the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Sitting atop the Corcovado Mountain, the 100-foot Cristo Redentor statue overlooks Rio de Janeiro with outstretched arms. The statue was originally a monument to celebrate Brazil’s 100 years of independence from Portugal but was unfinished in time for the 1922 ceremony. Once complete in 1931 it was placed in the Parque Nacional da Tijuca atop Corcovado with a lush forest marking the trip up to the statue.
