Igarassu is one of the oldest cities of Brazil and is approximately 36km north of Recife . This small place (approx. 77,611 inhabitants) was founded 1535.

The main church of the place on the mountain is Igreja São Cosme and São Damião. They originate from the time of the establishment of Igarassu. It is one of the oldest received stone churches in Brazil. The museums within Largo de São Cosme and São Damião accommodate pieces of sakraler art, weapons, as well as furniture from the houses of the aristocracy families of the past.
