This park was created in March of 1992 with the objective to protect the local ecosystem. The waterfall Da Ponte of Rock, the grotto of the Rock Ume, the Pan of the Sumidouro, waterfalls and rock formations make this a beautiful place to visit. The park contains many animal and fauna species in the canyon along the river Iapó, a tributary of the river Tibagi. Its geologic formation can be traced more than 400 million years back.

The marks of its first inhabitants are displayed in paintings found in the rocks, a discovery of the area is attributed the expedition of the Spaniard Dom Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca, in 1541
