The town of Congonhas is 70 kilometers from Belo Horizonte and makes a good day trip. Its attractions include the Basilica de Bom Jesus which houses the work of art, the Twelve Profits, by sculptor Aleijadinho. It is known as Brazil's most famous work of art.
