Board the ferry to Chiloé at Pargua, which sits on the mainland bank of the Chacao Canal. During the cruise, observe a variety of sea birds and playful tuninas, small and friendly—they swim right alongside the ferry—dolphins. Once on the island, continue on country roads to Caulín Bay. Here, be on the lookout for a great diversity of migrant fowl such as black-necked swans, flamingoes, dabbling ducks and other coastal birds. After a lunch of Caulín’s signature shellfish and oysters, proceed to the city of Ancud. Take a walk on the streets of downtown and visit the traditional Mercado Municipal, where one can choose from a stunning collection of produce, fish seafood, and Chilote arts and crafts. Return in the afternoon.
