With almost a dozen observatories within 90 miles of La Serena, this is one of the most important centers for astronomy in the world. At sunset, journey inland to Elqui Valley and the Mamalluca Observatory, one of the few such centers open to the public (by reservation only). A lecture and slide presentation will offer insight into this science, the wonders of the universe and the stars of the Southern Hemisphere in particular. A 12-inch telescope allows for nonpareil stargazing. Guides will be on hand to narrate, pointing out and providing information about all visible stars, planets, and galaxies. Return.
