(Chile) Handicraft Heaven! The island is known for its woolen goods, hand-crafted and tinted with natural dyes, as well as wooden model boats and basket ware. Thick forests populate the western side of the island while the majority of the inhabitants reside on the sheltered eastern side. Missionary work of Bavarian Jesuits influenced the early churches which were made entirely of wood as the island lacks metal resources.
