In 1570 Arica, Chile was declared a city by the king of Spain. However, Arica had been around long before this time. Historical evidence shows that the Incas and the Aymaras once used the area, and the city that is there today grew out of an Indian settlement. Arica sits at entrance of the Azapa Valley and has wonderful beaches, a tropical climate, and abundant flora and fauna. The area is also known as an important historical and cultural area.
