Take the northeast route out of Santiago through the cultivated fields of the Aconcagua Valley. Just beyond the town of Los Andes, travel over a bit of glacial morraine and prepare for the final steep ascent, with more than two dozen sharp turns, to Portillo Hotel. Hidden away in the middle of the Andes, this is the most famous of Chile’s ski resorts. Besides being the site of a number of speed skiing records, Portillo boasts 11 runs and a internationally acclaimed and internationally staffed ski school. Take your time frolicking on the slopes all day, taking a break to enjoy an optional lunch at the hotel’s restaurant, which overlooks Inca Lagoon. Return to Santiago late in the afternoon.
Note: Lift tickets and ski rental are not included.
