An early morning departure is necessary to reach the mystical lagoons of the high plateau, but well worth the loss of sleep. Both the Meñique and Miscanti Lagoons are fed from water sources far below the surface of the earth, attracting an array of wildlife. An abundance of flamingos usually surrounds the lagoons, whose pink figures, a stark contrast to the surrounding snowy slopes, are brilliantly reflected in the waters.
